The rule says to switch to winter-tyres as early as October (October - Easter). Who knows how quickly snow will hit us! Tyres should not be older than 10 years and not have a tread depth of less than 4 mm.

Windscreen Wipers
Driving at night with old wiper-blades is more than unpleasant. If necessary install new blades front and rear. In case of ice lift the wipers at night or place a protective sheet underneath to prevent them from freezing.

Car Battery
Often the beginning of winter is the right time to think about a new battery. If the battery is already struggling at temperatures above freezing it will not survive the winter.
Radiator Antifreeze
The expert says that at least -25° Celsius should be ensured for the antifreeze in the radiator system. Testing devices at the workshop or petrol station can check this for you. Warning: Too little antifreeze can damage the engine!

Windshield Antifreeze
The windshield washer fluid must also be winter-proof and additionally mixed with cleaner. The cleaner cleans the windows and prevents the spray nozzles from freezing.

Paint
To prevent the paint from being too badly damaged by the cold and road salt it is advisable to make a trip to the car wash followed by a polishing treatment. Road salt can be nasty!

Door Seals
Seals can sometimes freeze in cold weather. Do not force the door open! Special rubber care products can help in advance.
For the locks it is always advisable to use a door lock de-icer which should preferably not be kept in the car.
