From 1981 on the Polo was available in three body versions for the first time. The hatchback, coupé and sedan could now also be ordered with a diesel engine and the Coupé with a G40 engine. The Type 86C came from a study by the Volkswagen named Sciwago and underwent only one facelift until 1994.
