With this model another success story for Volkswagen began that continues to this day. The Golf Mk1 came onto the market in 1974 and by now the Golf is the best-selling Volkswagen to this day. The Type 17 was designed by Giugiaro and opened in a new era in Wolfsburg. A few facelifts and improvements accompanied the first Golf until 1983 and the GTI versiont is and remains iconic to this day.
